CBSE Class 12th: Marking Scheme
CBSE has introduced several changes in the class 12 exam pattern in order to reduce rote learning. You will now have to focus more on conceptual, logical and numerical questions instead of lengthy answers to theoretical questions.
Among several changes introduced by CBSE, below are the most notable ones that you will see in class 12 question papers.
- Class 12 question papers will now include a majority of objective-type questions.
- Such objective-type questions will be of 1 mark each.
- You will get 33% internal choices.
- Introduction of internal assessment and practicals will prevent students from cramming and help them enhance their practical knowledge.
- However, the board will not lower down the level of difficulty.
- Another major change is that there will be more 2-mark questions in comparison to 5-mark and 8-mark questions.
CBSE Class 12th: Science Stream (Exam Pattern)
- If you have opted for mathematics, then you may get sufficient time to complete your exam. It is expected that the 3-hour long exam will contain 19 questions in total; of which you have to attempt only 12.
- On the other hand, students who have opted for biology can expect more descriptive questions. The biology question paper may contain 20% two-mark questions.
- Even in a subject like English, you can anticipate higher number of descriptive questions.
- In chemistry, solid-state and group-15 of P-block elements have been removed from the syllabus.
- For physics, you will not see any overlapping concepts.
- Overall, the board has increased the frequency of 1-mark and 2-mark questions to promote conceptual and logical thinking skills in students.
CBSE Class 12th: Commerce Stream (Exam Pattern)
- If you have mathematics as one of your subjects in commerce stream, then you can expect a similar exam pattern as that for science stream students.
- Internal assessment and practicals will be conducted to help students adopt experiential learning.
- For English, the board will include more internal options in the question paper. However, you may expect high number of descriptive questions.
- In the case of business studies and accounts, there will be more short answers.
- Overall, the board has emphasized on increasing the number of 1-mark and 2-mark questions.
CBSE Class 12th: Arts/ Humanities Stream (Exam Pattern)
- In Hindi and history, the board has increased the number of descriptive-type questions.
- There will be more 2-mark questions in comparison to 5-mark questions.
- Quite the opposite, CBSE has reduced the number of descriptive questions in a few subjects such as Sanskrit and political science.
- Hindi will have the least number of objective-type questions among all the subjects.
