Chapter 3: What is Government?

Introduction: This chapter discusses government, and the important role government plays in our lives. The basic roles of government include making decisions about roads, and schools, reducing the price of a commodity, increasing the supply of electricity, protecting boundaries, arranging sufficient food for all etc. 

With so many tasks to do, the government is divided into three different levels- local level( village, town or locality), state-level (Delhi, Haryana, Mumbai etc.) and national level (the entire country).

Chapter 4: Key Elements of a Democratic Government 

Introduction: In this chapter of NCERT Class 6 Social and Political Life I, you will explore some of the crucial elements of democratic government. Chapter 5: Panchayati Raj

Introduction: This lesson discusses the role of representatives after winning the elections in rural areas. To solve day to day problems of the village, a village panchayat was held every time. 

To implement development programs, gram panchayat meets regularly, and then Gram Sabha approves the decisions taken by the gram panchayat. The main members of the panchayat are the Sarpanch( President), the Secretary and the Ward members ( panchs). 

Later in the NCERT Class 6 Social Science Chapter 5, you will study the three levels of the panchayats. Also, the Panchayati Raj system extends to two levels- block-level or Panchayat Samiti or Janpad Panchayat. Other one is Zila Parishad or District Panchayat.

Chapter 6: Rural Administration

According to the Hindu Succession Amendment Act, 2005, land share will be equally divided into the children of the landowner. As per the law, the mother, the son and the daughter will get equal share in the land. This law is applicable in all States and Union Territories.
