Let 𝑥 = 0.404040 …

𝑥 = 0. 40 ………..….…. (1)

Multiplying both sides by 100, we get

100 𝑥 = 40.40 ……….…. (2)

Subtracting equation (1) from equation (2), we get

100 𝑥 𝑥 = 40.40 − 0.40

99𝑥 = 40
