Metals are good conductors of heat. An example to demonstrate this would be:

i. If you heat one end of metal, after sometime the other end becomes warm and if heated more, the other end becomes equally hot.

ii. Now, this happens because something present inside the metal has helped in carrying the heat energy from one to the other end.

iii. Atoms are present in the metals, but they do not move from one place to another.

iv. Since metals are generally solids, thus the atoms will occupy fixed positions, but there are free electrons present in a metal.

v. These free electrons move around inside the metal.

vi. As a result, they transfer the heat energy from one end of the metal to another.
