“Lives of great men are an inspiration to move forward…!”
Good morning to respected Principal, teachers and my fellow students present in this Assembly today. I, Karuna Bajaj, am here to begin this morning assembly with some food for thought and some inspiration to embark on this new day with – learning from the lives of great men to move forward.
Great men, as we know them, weren’t born great themselves, neither were they able to achieve what they did because of luck alone. The secret to their greatness lies in not treating life as trivial or insignificant. Instead, they treat every day of their life with zest and as a beaming opportunity.
What great men believe in is to act in the present, rather than regret about the past or worry about the future. The know fully well that it is better to bury the past away as if it were dead, and not fantasize about the future no matter how pleasant it may seem. Instead they focus their present to perform, so that they can improve their past and shape their future.
If we are to pick up examples of any of the great men from the country and beyond, we are to find the same thread that connects all their lives together – leadership and heroism. Lincoln or Gandhi, Einstein or Raman, Christ or Buddha, lives of all the great men that we know have revolved around the same principles.
Bhagat Singh is one patriot that the country reveres till date because of his greatness. Singh was faced with many obstacles in life, and had he sat down to ponder over his past failures, he would never make up to being what he is known for being today. Singh refused to look back on the many failed attempts, arrests, losses and sorrows he was aggrieved with. Neither did he fancy the future as a Utopian place, where all his problems would get solved on their own. Bhagat Singh continued to act each day, struggling every moment to reach closer to his dream of an independent India.
It is true that he died much before the country could gain independence, nevertheless, he has definitely left behind his footprints in the sands of time, and he manages to continue to live in our hearts and minds to this day, and is considered by far the most adored and respected martyrs we have had in the country’s independence struggle.
Great men and their lives continue to inspire us unendingly. Their stories are different and yet so similar, because the principle of never-say-die and acting in the present is common to them all. Who knows one day the world will also remember some of us and take our names in similar speeches as this, because we managed to work hard and make our lives sublime? Have a good day everyone.
