Answer :

Energy resources can be classified into conventional and non-conventional sources. Conventional sources are those energy sources which have been in usage for a long time. Firewood and fossil fuels are the two main sources. But both these have many disadvantages. These sources – especially fossil fuels – are non-renewable sources. Also, the persistent use of these energy sources results in pollution of the environment. To overcome these problems of the conventional sources, various non-conventional sources of energy was identified.

Non-conventional sources are the sources that were identified only a few decades. They are renewable and cannot be exhausted. Also, they do not pollute the environment. The cost of extraction of these sources is also comparatively less. Thus to ensure greener earth and to conserve mineral resources, it is better to rely on non-conventional energy sources.

The major non-conventional sources are solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, geothermal energy, nuclear energy and biomass. They must be the energy sources that have to be exploited in the future.
