Brief biography of Martin Luther
Martin Luther was born on 10th November 1483 in the county of Mansfled in holy Roman empire. He entered the University of Erfurt at the age of 17 but later dropped out of college. He decided to devote himself to fasting, prayers and pilgrimage and later became a German monk in July 1505. He began the famous Protestant Reformation by which he questioned the luxurious life of Church and condemn their acts. He also rejected the sole authority of church over interpretation of the bible, as according to him anyone and everyone can read bible. In his 95 Theses, he highly criticised the church.
He gave the idea of Justification by which anyone could attain salvation as opposed to the idea of Church which emphasized on ceremonies for attaining salvation. He participated in numerous debates to put up his points and was treated badly at many times for his unconventional opinions on the conduct of church. one of the major accomplishments of his life were to translate Bible into German so that even a common man could read it.
He used to deliver his ideas among the common masses in the form sermons and the last sermon that he delivered was at Eisleben, where after three days he died on 15th February 1546. His legacy was carried on by his followers even after his death and his life was commemorated in the Church of England’s Calendar of Saints
