The Rowlatt Act (1919) was passed by the British Government with the aim of coming to political power. According to this act, the government could control political activities and detain political prisoners for two years without any trials.
NOTE – Gandhiji after coming to India launched the three Satyagraha’s before the coming of the Rowlatt Act –
1. Champaran, Bihar (1916) – organized peasants struggle against the plantation system
2. Kheda district, Gujarat (1917) – helped in supporting the peasant movement
3. Ahmedabad, Gujarat (1918) – supported the Cotton Mill Workers
