Water is an important natural resource for humans, animals and plants. Due to human activities water pollution as been increasing at an alarming rate. Since, only one percent of water in the world is available as fresh water, water conversation is important. In many parts of India, people do not have access to water as it has either depleted or not available in clean and safe form.
To ensure the availability of fresh water, there are different ways we can conserve water:
• Rain water harvesting: The rain water harvesting is a technique used to collect and store rainwater for future use. This technique is used in many areas with abundant rainfall and also, with low rainfall like Rajasthan, where the stored water is used in future.
• Watershed development: Watershed refers to the area of land which drains the water to other water bodies like rivers, oceans, etc. They carry the water of rainfall or snow which can be used for drinking. By conserving this area we ensure the availability of fresh water.
• Water recycling and reuse: We can conserve water by recycling or reusing. We can do this by using the used water for other purposes like reusing the water left in the water bottles to water plants.
