Why do you think

Answer :

Indian society is Patriarchal in nature from earlier times. Every aspect of human life is dominated by men. There is no doubt that our political system has only men to rule the country. Parliament is a platform where it is important for the implementation of the law equal number of representatives should be there to work together representing equality among different caste, community and gender. Indian Parliament has only men to represent the country’s people. Although four per cent of MPs were women 60 years ago it is nothing as compared to men making the decision for every group they don’t even know about.

Women in Parliament are only a few because of the following reasons –

• Our society never wanted to accept or see that they are being ruled by women. Even in medieval and modern times when people were being dominated by Rani Lakshmibai or Razia Sultan, they were reluctant to accept women in power. In the same manner, our patriarchal society never allowed women to dominate in any field.

Men in power took all the decisions related to women’s Rights and gradually they accepted that women should be represented by one of their own kind and not be men.

More than half of the population are women and still, only 9 per cent of women are MPs in the Parliament.

Smt. Vasundhara Raje, Smt. Usha Verma was some of the popular MPs of our country. Currently, seats are reserved for women in Parliament for ensuring equal representation and gradually, women trying to participate in the political system of our country.
