These lines are spoken by Jack to Aunt Jane who visits their new home in Hampstead. Jack believes that it was wise to purchase the house on installment because if he had been a tenant, then he would have to pay rent to the landlord every month. Also if he would be a tenant only, then one day or the other they would have to leave that place and shift to another house. He had preferred to buy his house on installment because after repayment of the loan he would one day become the owner of his house. He is not really the ‘owner’ of the house. He should have considered his monthly income before buying this house even on installments. He could have bought a small house with basic amenities in Britain, but his decision to buy an expensive house in an area like New Hampstead was foolish.
