Q. 7
Why are mitochondria able to make their own proteins?
Answer :
Mitochondria also known as power house of the cell is a double membrane bound organelle. It has a mitochondrial matrix which has suspended 70S ribosomes and DNA. These features make mitochondria well equipped with the necessary information (genes on mitochondrial DNA) and the protein making machinery (Ribosomes). These help in carrying out the processes of transcription and translation of the mitochondrial genes within the mitochondria, helping it in making some of its own proteins.
