Why are forests i
Forests are the lungs of the earth.
Forests are important to human beings for the following reasons:
a. Forests absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and give out oxygen which is required by human beings for respiration.
b. They form the habitat for the wild animals.
c. The groundwater level is enriched as the fast flow of rainwater is prevented so that it could percolate to the ground.
d. Forests cause rainfall and control temperature.
e. Forests help in preventing soil erosion.
f. Forests help in controlling global warming.
g. Forests remove pollutants like carbon monoxide and other poisonous gases and thus control air pollution.
h. Forests are also the source of many medicinal plants.
i. Forests provide us with natural food like berries, sap, and seeds.
j. Forests are also the source of living for many people.
Unfortunately, due to many reasons like urbanization and commercialisation, deforestation is rampant. It is our responsibility to protect our nature.
