The last President of the Soviet Union was Mikail Sergeyevich Gorbachev who served as the 8th president of the Union. He was also the Secretary General of the Communist Party for 7 years from 1985 to 1991. Mikhail served as the President of the Soviet Union from 15th March 1990 to 25th December 1991. Following the resignation of Mikhail, the Soviet Union was also dissolved formally. The disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991 led to the end of the Cold War.

The idea behind the policy of non-alignment was not to be isolated from the rest of the world. It did not even mean any kind of non-alignment from the world affairs. Rather non-aligned countries like India played a role as a mediator between two rival countries and brought peace and stability in their relations. Non-aligned countries like India have been a part of war for various reasons and also contributed in preventing them.
