Right to Freedom is one of the fundamental rights specified in the Indian constitution.
The following are the different rights that come under the Right to Freedom.
a. Freedom of speech and expression:
Freedom of speech and expression helps to develop our personality by enabling us to freely communicate with others. It enables to express one’s thoughts and views. The citizens of government have the right to criticise the government or any other bodies. But it is also mentioned that this right cannot be used to instigate violence against anyone.
b. Assembly in a peaceful manner:
Citizens have the freedom to hold meetings, processions, rallies and demonstrations on any issue. They can assemble in a peaceful manner to discuss any problem, exchange ideas, mobilise public support to a cause, or seek votes for a candidate or party in an election.
c. Form associations and unions:
Citizens can form associations and unions to promote and represent their interests. Trade Union, Labour union and sports association are some of the examples.
d. Move freely throughout the country:
Citizens of India can move freely throughout the country. This right allows migration from one part of the country to another in search of jobs.
e. Reside in any part of the country:
The people of India have the right to live in any part of the country. This allows the citizens to choose any place they wish and can settle down there.
f. Practice any profession, or to carry on any occupation, trade or business:
People of India have the right to choose their occupation or trade. No one in the country can compel any one to choose and follow a particular occupation or profession.
Thus, the Indian constitution offers the citizens the needed freedom which means absence of constraints.
