The Champaran movement was started in 1917 by Gandhiji to fight for the rights of planters in Champaran. The government forced the planter to grow Indigo in their fields and also forced to sell them at the lower government-fixed prices. Gandhiji stood against their cruel policies in his Satyagraha way and achieved success. This was the first Independence Movement started in India against British policies and rule.
The Ahmedabad movement was started in 1918 by Gandhiji to fight for the labour workers demand against the mill owners. The Ahmedabad mill labours demanded a 50% wage but the rich mill owners denied the demand and promised to give only 220% wage hike. This cause a big conflict between the Mill owners and the labours. Gandhiji started the hunger strike in a non-violent way and many labours supported the movement in a peaceful manner. This movement becomes successful by achieving a 35% wage hike.
The Kheda peasant struggle is also known as the No-Tax peasant struggle or Kheda movement was started in March 1918. The Peasant-Patidar community of Kheda who refused to agree to a 23% tax hike that was imposed on them despite terrible crop failure, plague and cholera. Gandhiji started Satyagraha protest to stand cruel British policies. The Kheda movement was a united protest with several people involved and outstandingly disciplined thought the struggle. As a result the Government reached an agreement and declared that the current year and next year tax would be suspended, and all their seized property will be returned.
