The most significant feature of water transport is that it does not require the construction of any route. All the routes are linked with each other through oceans which can be accessed through ships of different sizes. It only requires the facility of ports on either side. The friction of water is much less than roads which make it much cheaper way of transport. Transportation through water can be carried out in two ways i.e. through sea or inland waterways.

North Atlantic Sea Route is a link between the North-Eastern regions of USA and North-Western parts of Europe. These two are industrially developed regions in the world. This route has more industrial trade than the entire rest of the world. This route is very crucial as around 1/4th of the foreign trade throughout the world is linked with this region. It is also known as the Big Trunk Route as it is the busiest route in the world. Coasts on both the sides have well developed ports and harbour facilities.
