The following are the demographic consequences of migration:

a. The rural demographic structure has been affected widely because of the skill-selective out-migration.

b. The high rate of migration from states such as Uttranchal, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Eastern Maharashtra has resulted in imbalances in the age and sex composition of these states.

c. Many men migrate out of their homes in search of new jobs or better development facilities leaving behind their family in their hometowns. This affects the mental and physical well being of women.

The following are the consequences of international migration in India:

1. There is a diverse culture in India due to international migrants.

2. Many ideas related to new technologies, women education and empowerment etc., are brought into our country because of international migration.

3. International migration acts as the main source of foreign exchange.

Thus, migration at rural-urban levels affects the age and sex structure while international migration help in the socio-economic and cultural development.
