What is an ore? Where are the ores of metallic minerals generally located?
Ore is an accumulation of any mineral along with other elements. Rocks from which minerals are extracted are ores. All the commonly occurring minerals are related to six major mineral groups known as a major rock-forming mineral. The process of formation of minerals, its structure and composition differ according to the types of rock formation. Metallic minerals are generally found in igneous and metamorphic rock formations.
The elementary source of all mineral deposits is the hot magma in the core of the earth. When magma comes to the crust during volcanic activity in the form of lava, the process of formation of minerals commences. When lava cools and becomes magma, crystals and minerals appear which solidify and form rocks. These rocks are the source from which minerals are extracted. Such rocks that form when lava cools and becomes magma is the igneous rocks/ primary rocks. These rocks act as the base for further mineral formation. When the igneous rocks change due to pressure, it results in the formation of metamorphic rocks. These are the major sources of metallic ores.
