Amnesty International is an international Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). It promotes the protection and safeguard of human rights throughout the world. It was established in July 1961 and is headquartered in London. The main functions performed by the organisation are:
• It creates, upholds and enforces respect and dignity for all human rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
• It prepares and publishes reports on human rights violation and enforcement. It will also focus on the misconduct of government authorities.
• It promotes research of facts and checks their own findings and reports.
• It mobilises and organises people by pressurising the government to take the required steps to stop the violation of human rights.
