Altitude sickness is a condition where a person suffers from symptoms like nausea, fatigue, heart palpitations and breathlessness when moving on higher altitude. This is because in the low atmospheric pressure of high altitudes, the body does not get enough oxygen. So, to compensate the low Oxygen availability, the body increases RBC production, decreases the binding capacity of Haemoglobin and increases breathing.
Primary succession occurs on bare rock where no living thing pre-existed. The process of primary succession in a dry area (xerarch succession) are:
a. Lichens (Pioneer species) secrete acids to dissolve rocks helping in weathering and soil formation
b. Later, mosses which can hold small amount of soil succeed the lichens and increase the soil production and moisture content.
c. The bryophytes are then succeeded by bigger plants like herbs and shrubs
d. Ultimately, the climax community, forest, is formed.
