According to M.N. Srinivas the term ‘Westernisation’ means “the changes brought about in Indian society and culture as a result of over 150 years of British rule, the term subsuming changes occurring at different levels…technology, institutions, ideology and values”.
In other words, it changes that happened in Indian society during and due to the rule of British. Their rule in India bought Westernisation in different fields such as in the field of technology, institutions, ideology and the values we follow. Westernisation are of different kinds such as - Indian intellectuals bought accepted cognitive patterns, changed their way of thinking, styles of life, and also contributed to its expansion; changes were bought in the use of technology like fridge, dining table, etc and also in their dress, food, habits and styles of people and also Westernisation influenced Indian art and literature, for example- many artists like Ravi Varma, Abanindranath Tagore, Chandu Menon and Bankimchandra Chattopadhya were struggling with their encounter with colonial thoughts and wanted to adopt it on their way of thinking to educate people.
