A group of people who come together to the resources, facilities or infrastructure is called community identity. The most common form of community identity is ascriptive identity. This type of Identity is based on birth and the one over which one has no control. For example, the gender and ethnicity of a person.
India is a religiously diverse country. The following statements can support this argument:
a. India has 80.5% of Hindus who are divided by caste and languages and follow diverse beliefs and practices.
b. 13.4% of the population are Muslims. India is the third largest Muslim country in the world after Indonesia and Pakistan.
c. The Christians are 2.3%, Sikhs are 1.9%, Buddhists are 0.8% and Jains are 0.4%.
All this percentage looks very small in number, they actually add up to large absolute numbers.
