What are the main differences between private land and community land?
• Private land is owned by individuals, whereas community land is owned by the community for common uses like a collection of fodder, fruits, nuts or medicinal herbs. The performance of private properties is measured in terms of profitability. They are liable to one form of tax or the other, unlike public properties.
• Community lands are also known as ‘common property resources’. Community land would be either public land, owned by a group like a government entity, or land owned by a community for use by its membership. Performance of public properties is measured in terms of the extent to which they achieve the functional objectives.
