Irrigation is the artificial application of water to land for the purpose of agricultural production. It is usually used in areas where rainfall is irregular or drought is expected. It is also used to maintain moisture around plants. It helps to grow the agricultural crop and maintain landscapes.
Different methods of Irrigation in India are:
*Drip irrigation system: It is a type of micro irrigation system. In this method water is delivered to the root of plants to save water and nutrients.
*Sprinkler irrigation system: It is similar to natural rainfall. In this method water is distributed through a system of pipes usually by pumping.
*Basin irrigation system: In this method basin is formed for irrigation of land. Wastage of water and soil erosion is reduced.
*Ring irrigation system: This method is mainly suitable for fruit and vegetable crops.
*Furrow irrigation system: It is a type of surface irrigation. Furrow is dug between crop rows in a field and water flows from the furrow and reach to the crop.
