Answer :

There are various factors due to which a lot of areas have high population density. The reasons are as follows:-

• Geographical factors which affect the lifestyle of the people. People like to live in a good place which has adequate water facilities and other things which are necessary for daily lives. They prefer to live in a comfortable climate like the Mediterranean area, which has a comfortable climate throughout the year. They also prefer to live on plains rather than hills where the market, industries and transport facilities are quite handy. So the Ganga plains are densely populated. People who have occupation as farming like to live where the soil is fertile for agriculture and the transport cost is quite low.

• Economic factors also affect population density. The cities which offer better facilities for lifestyle and better employment attract number of people. They offer better medical treatment, better education and modern means of transport and modern technologies which make lives easy. Areas which have a good deposit of minerals are good location for industries, and therefore it attracts more skilled and semi-skilled people for employment. For example the Katanga Zambia belt in Africa and Kobe-Osaka region of Japan and are densely populated.

• Social and cultural factors also affect population density. The places which have religious, cultural and historical significance tend to attract more people.
