‘‘The size of a territory and per capita income are not directly related to
human development.’’ This statement can be supported by the following examples:
a) There are many smaller countries and regions which have developed tremendously as compared to the larger countries.
b) In terms of human development index, certain relatively poorer countries have been ranked better than many other countries.
c) Trinidad and Tobago have a higher rank in India, in terms of human development index, although it has a smaller economy.
d) Kerala has much better performance, in terms of human development, as compared to Punjab.
