Q. 185.0( 3 Votes )

Suppose the ceiling in the previous problem is that of an elevator which is going up with an acceleration of 2 m/s2. Find the elongations.

Answer :

Given:

Acceleration of the elevator =

Mass of the block =

Apparent weight due to pseudo force =

In equilibrium, we have,

When the additional mass of 1kg is added,

Apparent weight of the block becomes

=

In equilibrium, we have, apparent weight=kx

35.4 N=100 × x

Now as per the question we are asked to find further elongation,

further elongation = elongation due to 3kg - elongation due to 2kg
