State the Mendeli

Answer :

Based on his observations on dihybrid cross, Mendel proposed Mendel’s law of independent assortment. The law states that ‘when two pairs of traits are combined in a hybrid, segregation of one pair of characters is independent of other pair of characters’.

Punnett square can effectively explain the independent segregation of two pairs of genes during meiosis and production of eggs and pollen.


This law is not applicable in monohybrid cross because a monohybrid cross involves only one pair of the trait.
