“Rural Economic d
Yes I agree with this statement. In India more than 70% of the population in India is engaged in agriculture. Out of the whole population 1/3rd of the rural population lives in poverty. Rural areas lack better sanitation facilities, better education, electricity, easy and simple credit facilities etc. People in rural areas are deprived of all these facilities and which is why there is a growing need for rural development. Villages play an important role in the contribution of GDP. Villages must become self-sufficient in terms of better employment opportunities.
The areas which need development in rural India are following:
a) Lack of infrastructure: One of the major problems in rural area is lack of better infra-structural facilities. Government must take such actions so as to improve the villages by providing better sanitation facilities, electricity, irrigation, credit availability, better roads, transport facilities, roads connecting to highways and urban areas, sewage systems etc.
b) Alleviation of poverty: In rural areas, poverty is a chronic disease in India. Eradication of poverty is a must to improve the condition of India. Government must take measures to remove poverty such as to develop and implement rapid and sustained economic policies and programs, providing employment opportunities to households, invest and improve irrigation facilities etc.
c) Development of human capital: human capital is the most important component of an economy. In rural areas human capital must be developed by providing proper training programs and workshops, free camps for vaccination and free education to all.
