(a) In this extract, the poet is giving farewell to life. He further said that whatever poison was there in his life has gone out of his life. He meant that all the negativity of his life has wiped away and he is not carrying the negativity forward.


(b) There are many things that are directing the poet now. With the new leaves coming from the tree, the poet is getting a new hope and is burning the lamp of hope. He further said that a single ray by the pole star is giving him the direction.


(c) The poet mentioned the gone heat of summer; also he talks about the rain that is over. He further said that the autumn of the life is over which was covered over with golden hairs. He also talked about the passing of the biting winter along with the drunken summer. He said that all his spending was the journey that was huge throughout like it was four times.


(d) The sound was significant because it was rich with movement, rhythm, and vision. Also, it was endowed with imagery and the emotions of art and love. He further mentioned the ringing arithmetic of music, rhyme, and meter. Thus, the above-mentioned rhyme made the sound more significant.


(e) The skin is being compared to the leather shield which was supposed to hang in the fold from the body.


(f) The poet is making a comparison of his life to the leaves and the seasons. He used various figures of speech to compare life with various other aspects.


(g) The word ‘fatuous’ means silly and pointless and in this poem, the author talked about the pointless attacks of the rival with words.
