(a) Tourism generally refers to travelling to one place or another within the same country. It is also associated with an international trip. It is traveling for recreation, leisure, religious, family or business purposes, generally for a short span of time. It can also be defined a starveling or staying outside the normal environment for leisure, business or other purposes.


(b) Indian economy is affected one way or the other by tourism. It also always attracted tourist especially foreigners. It takes place both inbound and outbound thus is the major source of income for the country especially in terms of foreign exchange. It also fosters employment of a country wherein the visitors are frequently visited.


(c) Yes, India can be a popular tourist destination by several means. This is because India is a land of diversities wherein one can find all the natural beauties like desert, sea, forests, mountains, flowers, wildlife, etc. Also, one can experience a different culture, flora, and fauna in different states. Thus, people visiting India can enjoy the combination of culture, tradition and rich heritage.


(d) There are various initiatives taken by the government to boost tourism in India. The factors that helped the tourism sector are e-Tourist Visa to make travelling to India easier and simpler for foreign tourists. Also, the initiative i.e. Visa-On Arrival’ has allowed visitors to apply and receive the visa only when you show up in the country itself. Thus, this will impact tourism positively thereby raising the economic status of our country.

‘Consecutive’ means following each other continuously i.e. period of time one after the other without interruption. In the given passage tourism is being defined as travelling or staying at places other than the usual environment for not more than one consecutive year.


(ii) b.


‘Frequently’ means regularly or habitually; often. In the given passage it is mentioned that tourism also had a major impact on the economy and employment of a place that is frequently visited by the tourists.


(iii) a.


‘Simpler’ means easily understood or done; presenting no difficulty whereas ‘complicated’ means consisting of many interconnecting parts or elements; intricate. In the given passage it is mentioned that the initiatives by the government had made the life of tourists easier and simpler. So, the correct would be complicated.


(iv) a.


‘Liberalize’ means remove or loosen restrictions on (something, typically an economic or political system). In the passage, it talks about the liberalization of visa scheme which ultimately boosts tourism in our country.
