Q. 94.4( 51 Votes )

# In the following equations, find which variables x, z which represent rational or irrational numbers.

(i) z^{2} = 0.04

(ii) x^{2} = 5

Answer :

(i) z^{2} = 0.04

We have,

z^{2} = 0.04

Taking square root on both the sides, we get,

√z^{2} = √0.04

z = √0.04

=

z can be expressed in the form of , so it is a rational number.

(ii) x = √5

We have,

x^{2} = 5

Taking square root on both sides,

= ^{2} =

= x =

is not a perfect square root, so it is an irrational number.
