# If each side of an equilateral triangle is tripled then what is the percentage increase in the area of the triangle.

**Given:** Each side of the equilateral triangle is tripled

Area of an equilateral triangle

Where a = side of the triangle.

**Explanation:**

The original area of the triangle

New side = 3a

New Area of the triangle

New Area of the triangle

Therefore,

New Area = 9 times Original Area

Change in Area = New Area – Original Area

Change in Area = 8 Area of original triangle

%age change in Area

%age change in Area = 800 %

**Hence, the Percentage change in area is 800%.**
