Now in ΔABC,

By Pythagoras theorem,

Hypotenuse^{2} = Base^{2} + Perpendicular^{2}

⇒ AC^{2} = AB^{2} + BC^{2}

⇒ 17^{2} = 15^{2} + BC^{2}

⇒ 289 = 225 + BC^{2}

⇒ BC^{2} = 289 – 225

⇒ BC^{2} = 64

⇒ BC = √64

⇒ BC = 8 m

Distance of the foot of ladder is 8 m from the building.
