Let us solve the following simultaneous equations in two variables by the method of comparison:

2x + 4y = 11

Answer :

expressing the equations in terms of one variable

4x + 3y = 12


2x + 4y = 11

2x = 11 – 4y


by comparing eq. [1] and eq. [2]

24 – 6y = 44 – 16y

10y = 20

y = 2 ………[3]

by using [3] in [1]
