# Let us solve the following simultaneous equations in two variables by the method of substitution.

Answer :

Given … (1)

And … (2)

Expressing x of equation (1) in terms of y,

… (3)

Substituting (3) in (2),

⇒ 21y – 15 = 6y

⇒ 21y – 6y = 15

⇒ 15y = 15

∴ y = 1

Substituting y value in (3),

∴ x = 1

∴ By solving, we get x = 1 and y = 1.
