# Let us find the mode from the following frequency distribution table of ages of examinees of an entrance examination.

This is a grouped frequency distribution table.

Notice the greatest number of examinees is 75.

Modal class = 18 – 20

Mode is given by

Where,

L = Lower class limit of the modal class = 18

h = class interval of the modal class = 2

f1 = frequency of the modal class = 75

f0 = frequency of the class preceding the modal class = 45

f2 = frequency of the class succeeding the modal class = 38

Substituting values in the formula of mode,

Mode = 18 + 0.896

Mode = 18.896

Thus, mode is 18.896.
