# Let us solve the following linear simultaneous equations in two variables by the method of elimination:x + y = a + bax + by = a2 - b2

In this problem, we will eliminate ‘y’ from both the equations by subtracting the equation 2nd from 1st.

x + y = a + b (i) (ii)

Multiplying equation 1st by ‘b’ to make the coefficient of y equal in both equation. So we get,  Putting the value of x in equation (i) we get, value of y as    Hence the solution of the linear equation is and .
