(10.3 × 9.7) can be written as (10+0.3)(10-0.3)
using identity

= 99.91
now (10.7 × 9.3) can be written as (10+0.7)(10-0.7)

= 100 - 0.49
= 99.51

(10.3 × 9.7) – (10.7 × 9.3) = 99.91 - 99.51
= 0.40
