Q. 36

Mark the correct alternative in each of the following:

If P(A) = 0.4, P(B) = 0.8 and P(B/A) = 0.6, then P(A B) =

A. 0.24

B. 0.3

C. 0.48

D. 0.96

Answer :

P(A) =0.4 , P =0.6 , P(B) = 0.8 (Given)

P =0.6

P(AB) = P(A) 0.6

P(AB) = 0.4 0.6

P(AB) = 0.24 (1)

Now, according to the addition theorem of probability,

P(AB) = P(A) + P(B) – P(AB)

= 0.4 + 0.8 – 0.24 From (1)

= 1.2 - 0.24

= 0.96
