(x2-2x)2 + 5(x2-2x)-36


To resolve it into factors we first resolve 36


36=9×4


We know, x2 + (p + q)x + pq=(x + p)(x + q) … (2)


Comparing 1 and 2 we get,


p + q = 5


= 9 -4


pq = - 36


= 9 × (-4)


1 can be written as:


(x2-2x)2 + 9(x2-2x) - 4(x2-2x) -36


= (x2-2x)[ (x2-2x) + 9] – 4 [(x2-2x) + 9]


= (x2-2x +9) (x2-2x - 4)
