# One-fourth of a h

Answer :

Let the total number of camels is “x”.

Given: Camels in forest = x/4

Camels in mountain = 2√x

Camels on river bank = 15

To find: Total camels

Method Used:

To solve the quadratic equation by factorisation method, follow the steps:

1) Multiply the coefficient of x2 and constant term.

2) factorise the result obtained in step 1.

3) Now choose the pair of factors in such a way that after adding or subtracting(splitting) them

You get coefficient of x.

Explanation:

According to question, 3x – 8√x – 60 = 0

Let x = p2 …. (1)

3p2 – 8p – 60 = 0

Split the middle term to get,

3p2 – 8p – 60 = 0

3p2 – 18p + 10p – 60 = 0

3p (p – 6) + 10(p – 6) = 0

(p – 6) (3p+ 10) = 0

p = 6 and p = -10/3

From (1), x = 62 = 36

As camels cannot be in fraction.

Thus, total number of camels are 36.
