The rainwater from a roof 22 m × 20 m drains into cylindrical vessel having diameter of base 2 m and height 3.5 m. If the vessel is just full. Find the rainfall in cm.

Given: Length of roof = 22 m

Breadth of roof = 20 m

Diameter of cylindrical vessel = 2 m

Height of cylindrical vessel = 3.5 m

To find: The rainfall in cm.

Formula Used:

volume of cylinder = πr2h

Volume of cuboid = L×B×H


Given, length of the roof, l = 22m

breadth of the roof, b = 20m

height of the vessel, h = 3.5m

Diameter of base, D = 2m

Radius of the base, r =

Let height of the roof = H m

As we know that volume of cylinder =

where h is the height of the cylinder and r is the radius of the base.

If the vessel is full, then we can say that

Volume of roof = volume of the cylindrical tank

H = 0.025 m

H = 2.5 cm

Hence the rainfall is 2.5 cm.
