There are many examples that prove that the Harappans had established economic ties with Western Asia.
a. Trade with Oman: Copper was likely to be bought from Oman, as chemical analyses have shown that Omani copper and Harappan artefacts both have traces of nickel, which suggests that they have a common origin. Further, a Harappan artifact, a large distinctive vessel which has a thick layer of black clay, has been found at Omani sites. These may have been exchanged for copper.
b. Local “dilmun” (possibly the name for Bahrain) weights were measured by Harappan standards
c. Mesopotamian texts refer to contact with the region of “Meluhha”, which is possibly the Harappan region, mentioning products such as lapus lazuli, carnelian, etc.
