The four demerits of democracy are:
a. It is often observed that political leaders are more interested in strengthening their position rather than working for the Welfare of the country. The policies and programs are implemented in a haphazard manner and their consequences are not thought thoroughly.
b. The degree of corruption is extremely high in democracy. Inadequate power to certain political leaders is often misused and the deserving candidate is devoid of the leadership.
c. Elections held in a democratic setup is extremely expensive. The cost of paper, electronic machines, campaigning, etc is very high. It not only leads to the wastage of money which could be put to better uses but is also time-consuming.
d. The concept of democracy highlight equality in terms of education, employment, etc. However, in practice, democracy has not been able to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor section of the society. The rule of the majority often favours only a particular section of the people.
