The poet describes our hearts as stout and brave, in spite of acting like muffled drums, that beat almost inaudibly, as they march towards death. our hearts are not large and brawny, but very small and stout. Nevertheless, they are the bravest organs of the human body, and know how to stand thick in the dreariest of situations. The heart beats faster when faced in a dangerous situation, say a life-threatening one.
