(i) Premier Zhou Enlai and the then leader Deng Xiaoping belonged to the country of China. The full name of China is ‘People’s Republic of China’.
(ii) the main contribution of these two leaders in their country’s economic development are as follows –
• Premier Zhou Enlai proposed the ‘four modernisations’ in the sectors of agriculture, industry, science and technology and military in 1973.
• Deng Xiaoping announced the ‘open door’ policy and economic reforms in China by 1978.
(iii) The little man shown in the picture represents the concerns that have risen because of the Chinese economic growth. These include rise in unemployment, environmental degradation etc. the Chinese economic power is also viewed with caution at the world stage where long established Western countries do not want to lose their influence over the developing countries. In spite of these concerns which aim to slow down the Chinese growth, China has managed to establish itself as an economic power to reckon with.
