An area where population density is high and has an infrastructure of the built environment is called urban settlement.
The following are some of the features of urban settlements in India:
a. The people in urban areas concentrate more on administrative and other economic activities, unlike a rural settlement where the primary occupation is agriculture.
b. These urban areas are generally bigger in size and are compact which provides the basic comfortability to live in.
c. Some cities are popular for specific activities or functions. Example- Many Information Technology companies are located in Bangalore.
Because of the availability of amenities of life right from school to malls, the urban areas attract more population.
