She also tells the author that Nicola and Jacopo visit hospital to make payments to the hospital for treatment of their sister.

Chapter 2: Mrs Packletide's Tiger
Summary: In the story, ‘Mrs Packletide's Tiger’ the main character is a lady whose name is Mrs Packletide. She was a conceited person whose main aim in life was to outshine her neighbour Loona Bimberton, who she disliked to the core.
Mrs Packletide was filled with great jealousy when she learned that Loona Bimberton was recently carried in an aeroplane for eleven miles by an Algerian aviator. She felt a great urge to outshine Loona ‘s experience so that she could show herself as superior in society.
To outshine Luna’s achievement, Mr Packletide decided to hunt a tiger and procure his skin for hanging it on her house wall. She thought that her photograph would appear in the newspaper if she succeeds in her attempt to kill the tiger.
As the story unfolds, eventually the tiger gets killed but due to a heart attack and not from the bullet shot by Mrs Packletide.. Still, she gets the media attention and gifts tiger-paw brooch to Luna Bimberton to prove her superiority.

Chapter 3: The Letter
Summary: The chapter, 3 of the NCERT class 10 English ‘The Letter’ is an emotional story about an old man named Ali who is old and sick. Since the last five years, Ali had been visiting the post office regularly in the hope of receiving a letter from his daughter (Miriam), his only child.
Miriam was married to a soldier and had left his father long time back. So, the only desire that Ali had was to receive a letter from Miriam. He would be the first person to visit the post office and would leave the post office in the last.
Every day he would go back to his home feeling disappointed and sad. As time passed, Ali felt sick, and it was visible that he was nearing his death. So, one fine day while leaving the post office he hands five guineas to postmaster Laxmi Das and asks him to deliver Miriam’s letter to his grave.
Finally, one fine day the postmaster receives Miriam’s letter to her father, and he decides to deliver the later personally to Ali. Later, he learns that Ali had been dead for the past three months.
Therefore, to make up for the bad treatment that they had meted out to Ali, both Laxmi Das and postmaster visits the grave of Ali and places the letter on it.

Chapter 4: A Shady Plot
Summary: The story, ‘A Shady Plot’ has been written by Elsie Brown, who was famous for writing ghost stories. Through the story, the author is focussing on the appearance of spiritual and supernatural things.
In the story, the narrator (John) is a writer and is the main character who is assisted by a ghost named Helen. The spirit Halen has been defined as the member of “Writer’s Inspiration Bureau” who assist those writers that do not have an idea for their story.
Later, as the story unfolds, the writer participates in an Ouija board party much to the dislike of the ghost Halen who opposed people who used Ouija boards. The game is interrupted in the middle by Helen, the ghost.
The author’s wife gets upset with him as she thinks that his husband has an affair with the woman, Helen. After that, she gets rid of the Ouija Board, and since then the ghost leaves their house, leaving all of them happier.

Chapter 5: Patol Babu, Film Star
Summary: The story, ‘Patol Babu, Film Star’ of NCERT Interact in English has been penned by revered filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The story starts with a short conversation between Satyajit Patol Babu and Nilkanto, who happens to be Patol Babu’s neighbour. During the conversation, Nilkanto informs that he had recommended Patol Babu’s name for a role in the film.
The next morning, a person from the film production team visits Patol Babu and tells him about his scene in the film. Although the role was pretty small, Patol Babu accepts the role quite happily and reaches the studio the next morning at the exact time he was asked to come.
Upon his arrival at the studio, he notices a significant number of cars, vehicles and people. Soon, he is approached by the person from the film set and appreciates Patol Babu for his punctuality.
Later, Patol Babu discovers that his dialogue contains only a word- “oh!”. Although he feels disappointed, he still manages to enact the scene with such brilliance leaving everyone applauding for his fine acting.
Once his part was done, he was told to wait for the shoot to end to get his remuneration. However, he leaves the scene as the acting was his passion and appreciation as his remuneration.
